The westminster chorus
The mesmerizing Westminster Chorus is the 2009 ‘Choir of the World’ Pavarotti Trophy winner and the 2007 International Chorus Gold Medalist of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Formed in 2002 as a unique venture by young and committed singers, the chorus has had unparalleled success in its first seven years, including competing on NBC’s nationwide talent contest, America’s Got Talent. In 2009, they traveled to Llangollen, Wales, for the 60th annual International Musical Eisteddfod -- one of the most prestigious competitions in the world -- and won the title “Choir of the World” and the festival’s most coveted award, The Luciano Pavarotti Choir of the World Trophy.
With an average age in the mid-twenties, Westminster Chorus has changed the face of barbershop in less than a decade. Their wins have inspired a new movement within barbershop toward more and more youth chapters forming around the world. Now, young singers graduating collegiate a cappella groups and looking for new musical challenges are turning to barbershop, whose traditions of rich harmony, complex arrangements, and kaleidoscopic choreography offer them -- and their audiences -- the stage experience of a lifetime.
